My first trip of the season (unpaid) Sunday east of Chatham was met with quarter mile visability but a nice flat ocean. I first went to a set of numbers where I found Bluefin last Memorial Day and the area was loaded with Dolphin, Humpbacks and Minkies feeding like mad. It looked really good but after two hours of Dolphin playing with my bars and no tuna on the surface I stuck my face in the radar to pick a direction. There was another cluster of birds1.75 miles north west. When I got there I found a blanket of birds on the water with a bunch of tight bait balls under them, no whales and nothing happening on the surface. Everything was right though so it was tight circles for a half an hour until they showed on the surface. I nice group of 75-80 inch fish. We made a half a dozen passes at them trolling and then casting with no love but THEY'RE HERE! Get your boats ready and book your charters because the next four weeks will be the best until the fall out east of Chatham.
